Our Physicians

Dr. Victor Manuel Piña
Attended the Universidad Autonoma de Centro America Costa Rica where he earned his medical degree. He then proceeded to complete his residency training at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center. He completed a Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Miami. He is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Piña has been in private practice in Miami since 1992 and has been the Chief of Gastroenterology at two local hospitals.

 

Dr. Francisco R. Maderal
Obtained his Medical Degree from Universidad Central, Del Este, San Pedro of Macoris, Dominican Republic. He completed his Internship at Charity Hospital of New Orleans and Residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, he went on to complete his Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Charity Hospital of New Orleans Louisiana State University Medical Center.

Dr. Maderal is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine; and has been in private practice in South Florida since 1986 as a partner of Digestive Medicine Associates. He is an active member and leader in organized medicine and serves as a board member on the Dade County Medical Association and will serve as its future President.

Dr. Mark Avila
Eearned his Medical Degree from Medical College of Wisconsin and proceeded to complete his Residency at Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program. He obtained a Hepatology Fellowship the University of Miami School of Medicine prior to his Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Florida.

Dr. Avila is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and currently serves on the Florida Board of Medicine after his appointment by Governor Bush. He has been in private practice in Florida for over 14 years, and has been a partner of Digestive Medicine Associates since xxxx. He is active in clinical trials involving therapy for Hepatitis C and Gastroenterologic Diseases.

A native Floridian, Dr. Jose L. Martinez obtained his Medical Degree, Residency and Fellowship in Gastroenterology from the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

Dr. Martinez is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine; and has been in private practice in Florida since 1997 as a partner of Digestive Medicine Associates. He is an active member of several committees at local area hospitals but still finds time for his family and to indulge in his fondness for sports.

 

Dr. Victor Padilla, III
Dr. Victor Padilla, III attended the Universidad Nordestana School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic and completed his Residency at Helene Fuld & St. Francis Medical Centers in Trenton, New Jersey. He then proceeded to complete his post-doctoral training with a Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Miami. He is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.

Dr. Padilla is Voluntary Assistant Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology; and has been on the faculty since 1993. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Jeff González
Completed his Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He first finished medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine after which he went on to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to complete an Internal Medicine Residency. Dr. Gonzalez’ clinical interests include colon cancer screening in the Hispanic community and pharmaceutical research studies.

Dr. González has served as Chair of the Resident and Fellow Section of the American Medical Association (AMA) and currently serves on the Florida Medical Association delegation to the AMA.

Dr. González serves as Voluntary Assistant Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Jorge Castañeda
Finished medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. After medical school he completed both his Residency and his Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans.

Dr. Castañeda has served as Chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology at North Shore Medical Center as well as Vice Chairman of its Department of Medicine.
